This will be the IndyCar Series' seventh visit to Kansas City, which has played host to the IndyCar Series since 2001. The 1.5-mile oval has produced some of the closest racing in series history with three races finishing with a margin of victory of less than 0.2 of a second.

"Kansas is a difficult track in that you run minimum drag and downforce to get the most speed from the car. But it's usually very hot there and the heat causes the car to become quite difficult in traffic, plus the track surface has some bumps which tend to upset the car.

Setting the car up for the race is really a compromise between getting the best mechanical balance with some aeronautical downforce to get the car to handle in traffic; making the car fast but still keep it comfortable enough for the driver."
Eddie Jones, Race Engineer,
#26 NYSE Dallara/Honda/Firestone

Speedway history
The Kansas Speedway started with an idea from the International Speedway Corporation in 1996 as the company explored options to build a speedway in the midwest. The search was narrowed to the Kansas City area by the beginning of 1997 and on August 6, 1997, the decision was made to build the speedway outside of Kansas City, Kansas.

Construction began on May 25, 1999 and ticket sales through the sale of Fan P.A.S.S. go on sale July 28, 1999. General tickets went on sale world-wide on August 21, 2000, for the first season's four races.

Access to the speedway is unparalleled in the racing industry. Kansas Speedway is adjacent to two interstate highways and an excellent State and Local roadway network. Additionally, the roadway infrastructure constructed to move traffic in, out and around the facility includes over 55 - lane miles of roadway.

Kansas Speedway is strategically located near the intersection of I-435 and I-70 in Kansas City, Kansas so that it is easily accessible from all directions. It is the largest intersection in the State of Kansas and allows for 12 traffic lanes to access the facility.
