Marco was involved in a dramatic racing accident on lap 164 of the 2007 Indianapolis 500 as teammate Dario Franchitti went on to win.

Marco and the #26 car took a huge tumble after touching wheels with another car on the straightaway. He walked away from the incident and waved to the fans, indicating that he was OK. Race Pics |

Marco told ABC viewers - "I'm one lucky guy. You know, it definitely was a big one. I missed the beginning - I had no idea of who I hit on the right hand side. My right mirror was broke and I was trying to fix it under yellow... I was upside down and praying to God. Like I said, I am one lucky guy. It felt slow because I was going so fast - it took a long time to slow the thing down. I'm so proud of Dario Franchitti. Dario made my day. I'm so happy. So proud of that guy."

Marco was in 2nd place in the Indianapolis 500, when a rainstorm severely delayed the race on lap 113. He led the race on three separate occasions and was well placed for a run for victory. The race ended minutes after Marco's accident due to a red flagged rainstorm.

I'm really happy with the NYSE car.  I feel like we've got a strong race car capable of winning on Sunday.  It's a long race and anything can happen.  It's been a long month and we're ready to race." MARCO ANDRETTI, Carb Day. Photo by IRL photogrpaher Ron McQueeney Marco Andretti Qualified 9th at Indianapolis - and will start on row three at the 2007 Indianapolis 500. He acheived an average speed of 223.299 mph. All five Andretti Green Racing cars will start in the top eleven on an exciting Pole Day at Indy.

"Based on our last week of practice, I think the NYSE car is going to be a very good race car. You always want more speed but I think we've got what we need to be a factor on race day. I learned a lot last year as a rookie and I know that it's possible to win from the ninth starting position because we came so close last year. We've had a good month so I'm looking forward to race day." MARCO ANDRETTI, after Thursday practice.

Accident sees Marco finish 16th at Motegi:

"The x-rays were good, but I am a bit banged up. I will feel it in the morning." - MA

Marco Andretti was running well and on the lead lap until lap 137, when he ran high on turn four, lost grip, hit the outside, then the inside wall. The car was damaged and forced a retirement. Marco was taken for a shoulder x-ray as a precaution but was fine.

Position for the race - 16th. RACE REPORT

"We were struggling with both ends of the NYSE car today but I was still happy.  I was just trying to hang on to the finish and I just got into the marbles and the car just took off.  I had a huge understeer so I turned into it, got out of the throttle and then the front hooked and it overcorrected into the wall.  The inside retaining wall was the bigger hit for me.  I’m going to be sore in the morning but I’ll be alright." MARCO ANDRETTI

Other Andretti Green cars - Tony Kanaan will start third, his best start of the season, whilst Danica Patrick qualified fourth, her best start since California in 2005.

Marco Andretti finished last after his car had a mystery mechanical problem. He pulled into the pits on lap 42 after dropping back in the field from around lap 36. AGR retired the #26 car on lap 66.

"I've never been so scared in my life in an IndyCar," Andretti said at the time. "I'm sure there's something wrong with the NYSE car. It's nothing visual, so they're taking the car back. I really couldn't tell you what's wrong. It's incredible. It's a shame because the guys have worked so hard closing the gap".

Honda Racing F1's Gil De Ferran made a surprise visit to pit lane and told Autosport "Marco is one of the bright young stars. He has shown tremendous potential at an early age. The people he's racing against are very good. We would be remiss if we weren't looking at promising talent from around the world. "Marco is very mature and a very intelligent guy. He's very much in control of his world and his situation and that impressed me a lot. He's a tremendous talent in the car but his attitude and his head impressed me the most." READ ARTICLE

"We weren't particularly quick during the day but we didn't want to get ahead of ourselves and make crazy changes. Fortunately the NYSE car came back to us. This was the same setup we used during the test and we were definitely rolling the dice. We might as well have just rolled the car off the truck before qualifying because we didn't change much from the open test. "

Andretti fast again at Homestead testing - Thursday 22nd
"I think we might have found it. I don’t want to speak too soon, but the team’s work in the off-season so far it’s paid off. It’s only one day of testing. I hope we don’t come back for the race and it’s a totally different beast, which is known to happen.

"Today was the most important day here. We’re going to know where we stand for the year on the big ovals. We always know Andretti Green is going to be up front on the short ovals and road courses. Now, hopefully it’s across the board. That’s definitely good for the championship. We’re just going to work at it and be consistent."

"It's been awesome to have the chance to get back in a F1 car and I would really like to thank the Honda team for giving me this second opportunity.

I have really enjoyed my two days, and by the end of the second day with the wet conditions, I feel that I've really adapted to the way that the car has to be driven. So the weather was actually quite useful for me and I've now experienced a little bit of everything in only three days.

I was happy with my long run pace over the test but the one lap times are something that I am sure would come with further time in the car."

MARCO ANDRETTI

"I think that will be it -- there are no plans at the moment (for more tests). We've got to concentrate on our programme and he's got to concentrate on his North American programme It really is a matter of just taking it step by step. As he is only 19, we've got plenty of time to go."

Infineon Raceway officially ushered in the 2007 Big O Tires Racing Season on Monday 26th in the Sonoma Valley with its 2nd annual Northern California Media Kickoff Day.
"This has got to be one of my favorite places to race, if not the favorite. It’s a pretty challenging track and I like that. I came up on road courses and this takes me right back there, plus the facility is incredible with all of the improvements. This is one of the favorite stops for everyone on the series."

"You can mark my words. My expectations are higher than any of you guys. I'm not worried about making anyone happy but myself".

A Fun Test

Marco and the entire Indycar 2007 field were all at Daytona for open testing on January 31st and February 1st. "Any time I'm in the car, I obviously want to be at the top, so the first few sessions were a little bit frustrating for us. But, in the last session, I felt like we found the balance of the NYSE car. The engineers and guys on the crew did a good job taking the feedback and making the car better. This was a fun test and a good way for us to start the season."
